Fennel is a native of Europe and Asia Minor. It is cultivated extensively in Northern India as a cold-weather crop. The crop grows well in a mild climate. The dry and cold weather favours high seed production. The peak months for production generally occur in August and September, wherein the dispersion of seeds is driven by water, animals, and humans, respectively, as it clings to the clothing, mud or vehicles. The top producer of fennel seeds today is India, with Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Haryana being the central states for the crop production
